Example Coaching Structures

PMI recommends ADKAR and OSCAR. There are other models as well, such as GROW. Choose one that you will use with your coachee.

Below is the GRACE Model:

G = Goal (and GREEN)

Coach should be in GREEN and giving off cues of safety and connection.

What is the goal of this coaching session? What would make you walk away feeling like this session was a success?

Is the goal of this coaching session to create and commit to an action that moves you closed to a bigger goal? Is the goal of this session to find clarity? Destress?

What will success look like?

(Not for things that cannot be quantified too easily, you can say things like “On a scale of 1 to 10 what is your stress level now? …And what number at the end of this coaching session would indicate that this session was a success?”)

R = Recognize and Reconnect

Recognize: Where are you at right now (ex: SEC Check)?

Can you reconnect with Self/Self Energy that is associated with GREEN?

Also, recognition applies to the session goal / stated goal: What’s the gap between what you are experiencing now and your goal?

A = Ask and Attune

Ask transformational questions. Attune the conversation based on the answers.

C = Clarity and Call Back to __________

What is your next move (if GOAL was not achieved just yet)? What are your clear next steps?

Call back to ______ can mean: Call back to levity and lightness where things are grave and heavy. It can mean call back to alignment, as in alignment with values, purpose, objectives/goals. It can mean call back to love.

E = Expectation Check-in

Was your session goal met?

NOTE: There is a SQ version of this GRACE Model as follows:
